Hi Everyone,
I was planning on getting this slabbed (my first one) with Anacs or something just to have it verified and for safe keeping. Well, I looked at the coin again and I don't know if I didnt notice it before, but there is this, white greasy looking stuff splashed all over it!?

What is this? I do remeber removing it from the old flip and it was kind of stuck and left a ring where it was? Did the person wash it and then put it in the flip without drying it or somthing?

Is there something I can do? I was reading up on acetone? Would that be suitable or relevant in this case?

thanks

Maybe PVC? An acetone bath is a good idea, but some amount of damage may have already been done to the surface. If you have others in the same vintage flips, I'd strongly recommend taking them out to put into 2x2s or non-PVC flips.

Your photos aren't really showing a white greasy substance on that Nickel but go ahead and give it a long soak in the acetone . Make sure you use a new flip .

Hi thank you everyone. Yes there is definitely a fingerprint which I didn't notice until now and I'm pretty sure it officially ruined the coin for me, along with the pvc too now evidently. Wow, I have always heard about the big bad PVC but didn't think I would have to worry about it for some reason so didn't even care to find out exactly what it was or looked like. Yes, it's hard to see and you can see it In the pictures with the light at the right angle , but it is literally spread all over it so if I focus on one spot I would think it's just the coins normal entire surface! Hah bummer man that sucks I will try that acetone then. Thanks you guys!

Acetone soak won't hurt it, especially if you feel the coin is ruined in it's current state. What do you have to lose?
