Is there any way to know if this is an error or post mint damage without having it in hand. The patina is pretty much the same reverse and obverse besides the copper dimple or whatever on the back I also see a possible small clip. Thank you for whatever help you have to offer.

No sure it's even a coin. Or someone damaged the back.

It was commonplace for people to sand off the back of coins back in the day to make love tokens.

Just search "love token" at ebay and you'll see hundreds of examples.

Kinda was leaning towards a love token but funny they stopped and didn't finish carving it. Seems like most the love tokens I have seen have been on silver coins thought maybe Struck Through Grease or a capped die but the love token idea seems the most logical.
