Picked this up recently, lots of luster but a weak strike.
Grade opinions please?

Cheers, Bill

Weakly struck AU, way to much luster to be lower imo.

Admittedly not even that bad of a strike. Nice piece.

It retains some lustre but this one's been in circulation. It's an EF. Nice example!

I will say it again......this coin is ungradeable from pics. Must be seen in hand. If luster uninterrupted ms if luster is interrupted....au. Rev is very nice. As double eagle would say.....a take a chance coin.

Nice luster six bead nickel - if the obverse was as nice as the reverse I would say mid AU range, because it is not, then I would go AU50. It is still a nice coin that is worth taking a chance on.

hint......If the ear shows no wear.......and it only has only 6 beads and a flat spot on the band.........the other two were never there.....weak strike.......that is TYPICAL of series. Luster MUST be the deciding factor.

And let's add too that in a higher grade nickel in this series with a strong strike and all crown beads boldly showing you have a coin worth attention and a premium.

I agree with the upthread comments about strike and luster. I'll add that the heavy metal flow shows that this is a late to very late die state example, and that contributes to the apparent weakness.

For the series, this sure isn't a bad strike. You have the coin in hand, but just from the pics, I don't see any disruption of the luster. Good pickup!

Thanks for all who shared their opinion. When I saw this for $40 I never hesitated, very nice lustre.
These two pictures are with different lighting.

Cheers Bill
