Well. First coin purchase of the new decade... off to a good start I think. $180. This is the second one of these I own. This is my favorite date out of the small, collared bust two bits. It has a tiny mintage of 156,000 coins, fewer than half the 320,000 minted in 1832. This example is pretty nice and expected it to go much higher. Thoughts? Thanks! Can't see it well in the first obverse picture but the inner and outer clasp on liberty are full and clearly defined. The area where the eagle's talons are clutching the arrows is especially sharp whereas it tends to be weakly struck in many CBQs. Edited by numismatic student 01/01/2020 7:43 pm

I'll say VF-30+, choice for grade. Missing split curl above ear, not quite EF-40. Good price, not a rip.

Surely 30 or 35 - but just not a 40, sorry.

Are you arguing for EF-40?

Look like a nice VF30, shot 35. With modern gradeflation pieces such as this have graded XF40.

Buy it as a 40, then try to sell it as a 40. Show me ONE recognized grading guide that shows EF without full front drapery lines. This would be lucky to make 30.

I'd be good at 30. No higher. The obverse rim has a deep cut at 12:00 which is big enough to be a distraction.

I had a Seated Half with similar scratches that this coin shows near the breast in the left obverse fields go details scratches.
Also note the deeper scratch to the left of the date
for me this is VF details.
