More gems from my Dad's hoard...

An AU-ish condition nickel with a clipped planchet, plus a blank nickel planchet...

Added a pic of the steps.

Comments are most welcome.

The "so called" Blank is actually a nickel planchet. Blanks are type one, planchets are type 2. Why is there a difference? Because blanks are cut out of the stock material:

They are just blanks at this point.
Then they run through a setup process that add a roto rim to the blank, turning it into a planchet.

The raised rim slows down the circulation wear on the devices. When you look at coin grading, when the coins get to the VG-and lower the rim is starting suffer as well as the devices.
So you planchets have the rim.

OK, instead of "Blank planchet" I should have said "unstruck planchet"...

Or nickel planchet. People call them blanks, but I like to let them know what they do have.

I agree both are very nice. Have you considered placing them into 2x2s for safekeeping and storage?
