Hello, A friend of mine living in italy bought a coin from the UK,it arrived defective due to packaging issue.he want to return it . The national italian post refuses to ship it in accordance with their policies that prohibit coin shipment . How can he ship it back ? Do you recommend any courier that accepts coin shipping ?
When my Son was in Europe he would send me coins from all over the place. One thing he learned was to never say what he was sending. Only a letter and that letter had coins sort of with it. They were always inside a taped shut 2x2 flip.
You don't say they are coins, you get creative with your descriptions of the cointents. "numismatic items", stamped metal disks etc. Of course that could cause problems if you have to make insurance claims. Other possibilities are to try a different post office. here in the US often you will have one clerk who misinterprets the rules one way while a clerk in another gets it right. Many countries have rules that forbid the shipping of CASH, (The US does too unless t is shipped by Registered mail) but they DON'T forbid shipping numismatic collectibles. The problem is since they are still coins, some clerks apply the rule forbidding the shipping of cash.
Yes. You need to get creative with the customs description. I had a family friend that sent chocolate chips to a friend oversees. The package never arrived and was presumed to be stolen. They changed the description to Nestle's morsels and had no problems.
9705.00.00.60 item of numismatic interest of no commercial value item being returned to sender . Just hope it gets there . Italy absolutely brutal postal service!
