I hate to break this to you, but you do not have a steel cent. They only made them en-masse in 1943, and only a very very few in 1944 and none after that. What you most likely have is a steel (or silver) plated penny, and probably an older one at that since the silver colour appears to be wearing off and you can see copper. The weight you have shows it's heavy wear.

If you want to pay your medical bills, the going rate for your average Wheat cent is about 3 cents each, and if you have 50,000 as you have stated, at 3 cents each, that's $1500!

Hi, Mikeyworms.

The experts at CCF will assist you with your coin.

I am a newbie in this hobby... I am learning... and I looked at the expected weight and composition of 1945 wheat cent--- from 1944-1946 weight=3.11 grams (composition 0.950 copper, 0.05 zinc). 1945 Wheat cent should not stick to a magnet (needs magnet testing). During 1945, US mint have been minting coins for other countries....I am curious as to how much grams a coin can lose due to wear...

Thanks for posting, something new to learn...

If it is steel, then why are the areas showing wear on the high points, all showing copper? Plated coin.

I can appreciate the fact you have medical bills you're paying off. Many of us here have them. How about this... 250 x 3 cents each = $7.50. Or if you want $19.99, that'll take 667 Wheaties. That's not too bad, is it? That's the going rate I'm afraid.
