France 1914, 25 centimes, nickel.

The first year for this design, as @NumisRob points out. It was the first time holed coins (5, 10, and 25 centimes) were minted in France and it was a custom continued until 1946. According to some sources the purpose of the hole was to distinguish these silver looking coins from the real silver coins, which were of nearly the same size and weight.

France 1914, 20 francs, gold.

While 1914 was the first year for holed coins, it was also the last year for the iconic 20 francs Marianne gold coin. The world war halted all gold issues.
