The "Godless" George V (no D.G. in obverse legend)

Second time in less than a century that the engravers made that particular mistake, previously seen on the 1849 "Godless" Gothic florin of Victoria (and you'll also see one of those from me in 1849!)

The 1911 Halfcrown borrowed exactly the same design as the Halfcrowns of King Edward VII, except they had a higher rim and a circle of tiny beads inside the rim, which protected the design better and ensured the shield wore more evenly (The inscription wears off Eddies at F/gF but at George in the high Goods). Tomorrow you will see my 1910 and you will see this contrast.

The first year only had a mintage of 2.5 million which is the 2nd lowest of the 1910s after 1913. There were also 15,000 Proof Halfcrowns issued with the 1911 Proof set, which featured coins from a Gold £5 down to the Maundy Penny.

This coin is pretty decent and grades Almost Fine (aFine/Fine)
