Something a little different, these aluminium medals were given to every child at school in the Dominion of New Zealand in 1911 for the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary.

He became king on his father's death in May 1910, but the coronation was not until June 22nd 1911 and 1910 coins had the bust of the deceased king.

The medals had a fabric band which was once red, white and blue. This medal is fairly common worth just a few dollars - yet this one is special as it belonged to my Great Grandfather who was 7 in 1911.

It is very large too, being 39mm in diameter.

Another Russian coin - Here is a 1911 Kopeck

Coin is in reasonable condition (F/VF) but shows darkening and verdigris. The style and design on the copper changed very little between 1860s and 1916. The portrait of the Tsar only appeared on the coins of 25 Kopecks and up.

When we reach the 1890s I will show a Poltnik (50 Kopeck) and Ruble with these.

1911 British coins. Unusually, no silver crown was issued for the Coronation of King George V, although proof sets were struck with gold £2 and £5 coins.

My last 2 1911 coins are pretty pedestrian - but here goes

1911 UK Penny - a bit darkened but fine overall.

1911 German Empire 5 Pfennig, this coin is VF and strangely the designs of the German coins to 1 Mark were pretty much the same from the early 1870s right through to 1918 - with an eagle change around 1880.

As we know silver coins 2 Marks and up featured the common eagle obverse but showed local rulers of each state.

The stamps were similar one type around 1872, eagle change 1876 and then only major design changes in 1889 and 1900.
