France 1827, 20 francs, Charles X. Paris (A).  The last of the Bourbon kings, who with his anti-liberal politics that included compensating pre-revolutionary landowners (i.e., nobility), press censorship and capital punishment for sacrilege, became highly unpopular. His re-introduction of the outdated royal touch (the alleged curing of scrofula by being touched by the hands of the anointed king) at his coronation in 1824 was another sign of Charles being seriously out of sync with the movements of the time. He was eventually forced to abdicate in the July revolution 1830. A beautiful coin, though. |

Beautiful half-dollar, mikey50, and glorious 20 francs, erafjel! After a great start to 1827 I'm now going to lower the tone by displaying my only UK coins for the year, all of which need a Government Health Warning! (Sensitive numismatists may prefer to look away!) Farthing:  Halfpenny:  Sixpence:  Shilling:  I haven't got one of the very scarce 1827 pennies that were largely exported to Australia, although I did once see a specimen in a Brisbane coin shop that would have complemented this set perfectly! Sadly, I didn't buy it! I suppose the damage to the obverse of my 1827 farthing may partly be a lamination issue, although the edge knocks are definitely PMD! |

An 1827 Large Cent (I have 6 different varieties for this year!!)  A pair of 1827 Capped Bust Dimes, JR-4 and JR-11 The JR-4 is counterstamped.
