I am starting 1952 with two very different coins Libya 1952 - being under Ottoman and then Italian and Nazi occupation, Libya in 1951 became a puppet kingdom after British occupation. They had a King Idris and with the discovery of oil in the early 1960s it became rich. Of course the arrival of Ghaddafi and his revolution in 1969 changed all that. This is a bronze 5 Millemes and cupronickel 2 Piastres (1000 mils, 100 piastres = 1 Lira) of King Idris. Dated 1952, but in actual Arabic numerals! Two of my more curious coins.

Just to prove to you guys, I am not totally ignorant of North America Presenting my very worn American dime and Canadian quarter from 1952! Both are VG condition and well worn. I will show nicer coins as we go further back. We also say hello to King George the Sixth now, no coins of Elizabeth II any more, although technically from Feb 6th of 1952, she was the Queen.

The exotic coins keep coming for 1952 from me! Here we have brass 10 and 50 Francs of Empire Cherifien or Morocco to us. French and Arabic are used here. Not sure if these are royal or colonial coins here. I suspect Morocco was still connected to France in some way before 1956. Date is AH 1371, which translates to 1952 mostly. A 1 Franc coin I will show in 1951 is dated AH 1370/1951 so feel secure here. The 50 Franc is a particularly beautiful and chunky coin! More coins later.

With the death of King George VI early in the year, few British coins were issued for circulation. Unique examples exist of a 1952 penny and halfcrown. This is the full set of circulating British coins for 1952! Close-up of the 1952 threepence:

Nice, I have all of those except a Sixpence Meanwhile in New Zealand, we had all of ours except the Florin and Half Crown. The Penny was issued here too (Even though they came from The Royal Mint!) This one is aEF and has some lustre - the average one is F/gF. Like you in the UK all our 52 coins showed the late king.
