We cross the silver rubicon in 1946. First coin always for my year posts - the ubiquitous half crown of New Zealand. 1946 was a fairly large issue (just under a million) after patchy issuing through the war. The coin here is a VF to gVF example, well above average (But better ones still are coming ). The joy of VF+ silver ones is the obverse has almost no wear and only wear on the cheek, hairlines and eyebrow of George are visible. Sadly as its half copper this wear is a black line mostly.

As a novelty I also bought an AU Threepence as well and it only cost $15 Although the photo does not show it well - the lack of wear is obvious and much mint bloom. This coin is very small also (16.26mm or .650 inches). New Zealand never went down the brass 3d route like the UK, although Fiji did from 1947.

2 hours and no more posts My 3rd coin is more worn - a 1946 Australian shilling This one is like the Florin of 1947 worn down to VG and heavily used. Unlike with NZ and GB, 1946 was the first year of .500 silver for Australian coins - for 1945 backwards they had sterling silver coins - You will see one in 1944. This coin has a greenish tinge from the copper - common on worn coins like this.
