1945 starts with a Half crown and Florin pair!   Here we have one of my best Halfcrowns which is gEF/Au and only let down by some toning across the top quarter of the obverse. The Florin is aVF and quite nice too. It stands out next to the standard "Good - VG" Florins - but next to the dazzling half crown - it looks like a hanger on  Coin numbers this year minted, whilst not as low as 1944 were about half as many as of what came out in 1946. One of my finest Kiwi Halfpennies - this coin has heaps of natural and original lustre   Very light all over wear - you can get some stunning coppers from any date, but original lustre on a pre 1960 coin is really nice for someone on my budget and collecting level. I got it cheap in a pile of old coins, with a really nice 1944 Penny which you will see tomorrow  Still EF rather than BU as there is some light wear on George's hair, his cheeks eyes and on the high points of the Tiki. 1945 UK set. This is the complete set of coins issued for circulation. An issue of silver threepences was also planned (this would have been their final year of issue) but they are supposed to have all been melted down: only one is known to exist!  The halfpenny is my best coin for this year. Strangely, although The Royal Mint artificially toned pennies of 1944-46 to stop people hoarding them, they didn't do this with halfpennies - fortunately!  Close-up of my 1945 halfcrown:  |

Nice group - Numis Rob, I got my Britannia pennies out tonight and to my surprise, did have a 1949 - a pretty nice gVF one with a bit of lustre too! Love the Halfpenny - coincidental you and I both have a stunning 1945 Halfpenny - hear what you are saying about the silver 3ds - I have them 1937 to 1940 but no later and my 1938 is very nice. I get your point on Penny burnishing too - some 1945 NZ pennies were also burnished dark and my book says they were UK blanks done so as to stop penny hoarding in WW2 when supplies ran short!    Glad you showed Half penny and the Half crown as I have a fairly nice little farthing here and may hold off shown my much more worn UK halfcrown until tomorrow - plus one other coin from a country I have not shown before! Don't worry - no more British Halfcrowns for me until 1932, when it gets serious. Edited by Princetane
