Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 04/04/2020 12:13 am Welcome to 1944 - First coin - the Ubiquitous Half crown and we have a doozy for you today! 1944 saw the lowest mintage of Half crowns except for 1961 and the 1940 Centennial coin (Which did not really circulate) which means they are more expensive in conditions above average. Whereas most of my Halfcrowns to date have been mostly EF and at least gVF for the silver ones, this one is barely VF, mainly as anything better costs hundreds of bucks (Try $1200 UNC and $300 EF compared to $80 for a EF 1945). An average 1944 is about $15 to $20 (VG), this VF 25 cost me around $40 or $50 I think. It is still nice, little wear on the obverse, but quite a bit on George and the lustre is a bit duller. Low numbers of Florins (I don't even have a worn one) were issued too, but other coins had good numbers issued. Report this Post to the Staff

A 1944 Indian Half rupee These coins had been recently desilvered from .925 to .500 and the copper shows in this gFine example. In 1946 it became a nickel coin. This coin also shows the "Crowned" colonial bust of KGVI I love the floral decoration too. Report this Post to the Staff

This 1944 shilling of Australia is in much nicer nick than the worn 1946 one. Also its an American minting too. San Francisco minted quite a lot of coins for Australia and Fiji during WW2 and this has the mint mark. You Americans may love that - an American minted British empire coin!
