Just wanted to make sure this was real and not faked like they are finding with the wheat pennies. Thanks for your help as always.

Where did you get it? What would one look for to verify authenticity?

Common enough, definitely authentic.
My LCS (Sydney) owner visited the Long Beach Coin Show about 20 years ago, and brought back about 200 examples of major off center error coins like this one, and sold them off for $50 each, in his coin inventory magazine. All came from the U.S. Mint.
He had three denominations: Penny, nickel and dime; anything from 20% to 80% off center. Some of them a lot more scyphate** than others.

Probably worth two to three times as much these days.

** cup shaped, as a result of the planchet only partly between the dies.

Very difficult to value major error coins,
because it depends on how severe the error is, it's type, and the current market demand for them.

Condition is usually MS or better, simply because they never see any circulation.

It came out of some penny rolls I picked up at the bank. It was in the very first roll. I am just hesitant these days because there are so many fakes being made. Thanks for looking.

Definitely not fake and hard to find in a roll. You might be into some good rolls if you find coins like that in there!

Nice roll find. The ones with a full date are worth more. Check ebay sold values, but I would think less than $5.

2001 was when they started the pallet coinage. So the 2000 cents could have been in a mint bag. (Easier to find off centers coins then)
