Picked this one up on ebay last week. Spent a bit more than I probably should have, clearly other bidders saw the RPD, but I really wanted to have this variety. Who knows if I'll have the opportunity to cherrypick another one of these, it is a Red Book variety...

$51 plus shipping. Almost the most I've ever spent on a single coin!

I'm having trouble identifying which variety it is though. I'm thinking N31, but it needs confirmation.

Extra flag to 1 not visible, no defect under 13th star, no die cracks on reverse. Sounds like earlier die stage N31 but I'm inexperienced with large cents.

Thoughts, opinions, how'd I do, N2 or N31?

I'm learning large cent attribution myself, but I think you're on the right track with this one. It definitely fits an N-31. I think you did really good. I would say it is in the VF range, so looking at the Greysheets you're did quite nicely. A very nice acquisition.

Very nice find! You did well. Most I've spent on one coin is under $30 I believe.

I also think its an N-31 which I believe is still R-5 rarity. Grellman says uncracked reverse is very rare also. CQR has $45 for EAC grade of vg-8 and $80 for a F-12. With the color of this coin and the rim dings I think it would net grade close to the VG-8 price. $51 is in that neighborhood. You might think of sending it to Grellman for attribution and grading. For a dollar plus postage I think its worth it.

How would I do that? Did a search around and couldn't find any info on Grellman doing through-the-mail attributions. I can only find forum posts of people saying "send it to Grellman" with no details on how to do so.
