Hey everyone, I've got this 1982 D penny and was wondering what this raised area was on the mint mark, it almost looks like another letter but I'm not sure. What do you think?

It's called a zinc Zit just a zinc rot.

Yep there is a hole in the copper plating at the top serif of the mintmark and the underlying zinc core is starting to deteriorate. Sometimes you can depress these with a wooden toothpick.
