I haven't seen anything like this before. Are these from the mint or someones attempt at making fakes? They look really quality.

That seems quite likely.

Looking at the post does that mean these are extremely rare / valuable? Do you think they were also presented to the king? They were struck in 1950 like the ones in the article. I don't see much else like this on the web.
