I've had this 1938 D Buffalo nickel since my Grandpa passed in 1984. It is a superb specimen as far as eye appeal and is uncirculated. I never thought about it being doubled in any way as it doesn't have the hallmarks in what I look for in a Lincoln Cent. I know, two very different monsters. I looked at VV and looked at a 1936 D Buffalo nickel and this one bears a remarkable resemblance to the 36 D on VV. The dot between UNITED and STATES is enlarged and slightly elongated an the tops of the devices are identical. The last pic was borrowed from VV. Tell me what you think.

I'm just not seeing the extra thickness on the dots, and the tops of the letters have Die Deterioration Doubling.

Tanman, DDD was my very first thought as you can see the metal flow towards the rim. But, not looking at a lot of nickels I thought I would throw this one out there.

Are you talking about the tops or the base of the "T"? The tops are Die Deterioration, but there is something weird at the bottom of the first "T"
