I found this in my pocket change today. It appears there's something going on with the date, specifically the last 9 looks flatter. I thought it was just crushed but the rim doesn't appear to be damaged. There's also something going on with the reverse ("of" and "am" in United States of America) I know you all have some very knowledgeable folks here so I thought I would let you have a look.

The date area is wider because of grease blockage on the narrow part of the devices.

When the grease is removed, then the devices look normal again.

Thanks for all the responses and Welcomes! This seems like a great community and I'm grateful to be part of it. I'm new to this, but I'm doing tons of research and learning new things everyday. My wife's grandfather showed me an old coin he had put back. It's an 1817 quarter. Pretty worn but still in good shape for a coin that old. It's amazing that someone alive during the signing of the Declaration of Independence could have once owned that coin....amazing.
