AH, I see. Well there were coins struck at both Calcutta and Bombay, and both had raised and incuse varieties. (Sorry, I should have been clearer about there being two mint marks for this date). As to the mint mark being above the date, that is just perplexing. I'm really not quite sure what to tell you since there was only one reverse type for this date, and the mint mark was usually just in the large flower beneath the date. I know the the mint marks were hand punched, so that can cause some variation in the exact placement within the flower, but its presence above the date is just odd. Maybe you've discovered a rare variety! haha

Recently I bought this 1900B British India 1 rupee silver coin featuring Queen Victoria.

Seven-Victorias Seven-Victorias

The mint mark "B" is located in the flower directly above the "N" in ONE.

t360- that is a really nice Rupee! It is really rather hard to find BU Victoria Rupees. SO very good buy.
