SeanGon Valued Member 103 Posts	Posted 01/15/2020 11:55 am So I have a question, in regards to the weight of my coin it is 7 grams and it is just short of an inch in diameter by about a 1/16 of an inch. With that said after researching a ton is it possible that this is one of the counterfit ones that were made back in 1785? All of the coins.back then were supposed to weigh 1/3 of a troy ounce however most of the ones found and sold only weighed 8.7 gram (27.1 mm in diameter) another 7.17grams and 27.7 mm another 7.04 grams and 26.9 mm. I would still think this would be a cool coin to have IF it were one of the counterfit o es that were rampant back in 1785. Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts? Thank in advance! SeanGon Valued Member 103 Posts	Posted 01/15/2020 12:25 pm I just added this picture because it's what I think possibly OF IT IS one of the fakes from back in 1785. A lot of the markings match but yes the M looks off but other than that IF it happens to be one of the fakes made back in 1785 is it worth anything or just a cool piece of history with no monitoary value. lcutler Pillar of the Community United States 1657 Posts	Posted 01/15/2020 4:45 pm I don't think there is any chance that it is a period counterfeit. It has all the earmarks of a modern cast replica. Most of the counterfeits of the era were die struck on thin underweight planchets. Report this Post to the Staff
