I have been working on a Canadian circulation type set for quite some time, but being in the States, I worry that I might have missed some of the newer releases. I'm pretty sure I'm accurate up to 2010, but would like someone to double check if I'm missing anything recent. So: Cent:2003 on / New portrait 2012 Nickel: 2003 on / New Portrait 2005 / WW II Commem 2017 / 150 Years Dime: 2003 on / New Portrait 2017 / 150 Years Quarter: 2006 on / RCM logo 2010 / Ice Sledge 2010 / Remembrance (coloured) 2012 / Orca 2012 / Orca (c) 2012 / Falcon 2012 / Falcon (c) 2012 / Bison 2012 / Bison (c) 2012 / 2 diff War of 1812 2012 / 2 diff War of 1812 (c) 2013 / 2 diff War of 1812 2013 / 2 diff War of 1812 (c) 2013 / Arctic, 1 & 2 2013 / North, 1 & 2 2015 / Flag 50th 2015 / Remembrance (c) 2017 / 150 Years 2017 / 150 Years (c) 2017 / Stanley Cup Fifty Cent: 2001 on / Plated steel 2017 / 150 Years Loonie: 2010 / Navy 2010 / Olympics 2010 / Roughriders 2011 / Nat'l Parks 2012 on / Regular, new material 2012 / Olympics 2012 / Grey Cup 2016 / Womens Vote 2016 / Olympics 2017 / 150 Years 2017 / Maple Leafs 2019 / Equality Twonies: 2011 / Boreal Forest 2012 / Regular, new material 2012 / HMS Shannon 2014 / Wait For Me 2015 / John McD 2015 / Remembrance 2016 / Battle of the Atlantic 2017 / Dance of the Spirits 2017 / Dance of the Spirits (c) 2017 / Vimy Ridge 2018 / Armistice 2018 / Armistice (c) 2019 / D-Day 2019 / D-Day (c) Am I missing any of the circulation issue commemoratives, or have there been any changes to the regular circulation issues, such as new portraits, new materials, new security features?

Hi, @jdfindring:
Unfortunately, you are missing quite a few!
I don't even have a proper complete list to share with you, and I have yet to get all the commemoratives from 2018 and 2019.
For starters, there were 4 varieties of the 1 cent coin which includes the ones with zinc or steel core and those with or without a mint logo. There were 19 of the 25 cent coins issued for the Vancouver Olympics; you only list 2. That includes the coloured and regular ones which did actually circulate.
There were quite a few more. Maybe someone has a complete list that they could share with the CCF.
By recent, I will take that as starting with the new Queen's portrait in 2003.

Ok. Keep in mind that I'm asking POST 2010 for everything except regular issue coins. 4 different cents post 2003? On the Vancouver Olympics, I have 19 different ones, but only 2 dated 2010 or later. Were more issued in 2010 or 2011?

I'm a Vicky variety collector so I'll mention a couple that most type set people don't include in their type sets, because they don't know about them. 1881 Obv 1, Obv 1A & Obv 1A/1. 1882 Obv 1, Obv 1a, Obv 1a/1, Obv 2 & Obv 2/1. 1884 Obv 2 & Obv 1A.

There is a 2012 Old Style Loonie, as well as the new security marked one.
Same for the Toonie. Both Old and new style. 2010 Toonies had 2 different edge serrations, 14 and 16. 2012 forward toonies have edge lettering that can be right side up or up side down. I try to get them both.
Oriole is right on the cents. Zinc and steel plated for lots of years and mint mark changed. You'll need to go back and look at the 1 cent.

Ok, so here is what I have for small cents starting with Elizabeth II. 1953-1964 1965-1966, 1968-1978 / New Portrait 1967 / Centennial 1979 / Small Bust 1980-1981 / Reduced weight 1982-1989 / Reduced Weight, 12 sided 1990-1991, 1993-1996 / New Obverse 1992 / Confederation 1997-2003 / Copper plated zinc 2002 / Golden Jubilee 2003- / New Portrait 2012 /
What am I missing? A different material would count as a different type, what material and what year ranges? A different mint mark generally would not count as a different type for a type set, only for a complete set.

@jdfindring, I think that your best bet would be to go to the listing in numista, search for circulating coins regular/ commmemorative. That way you can also verify if your listing up to 2010 is complete. Others have pointed out some varieties that you may or may not want to include in your collection.
Even as I Canadian I find it hard to keep track of all the circulation types, so you would have an even tougher time. The commemorative ones are often hard to find in circulation as they get saved.

I just looked through your list and it is mostly complete post 2010... Couple of additions: Quarter 2015 Flag has coloured and plain varieties Loon: 2014 There is a Lucky Loonie - Olympic variety Your best bet for coverage is to get a catalogue from Charlton or Krause. These books will not https://www.amazon.ca/2020-CHARLTON...2C208&sr=8-1

Thanks vonigohcr! I was unaware of plain on the 2015 Flag coin. On the 2014 Lucky Loonie, I thought it was the same as the 2012, no change except the date. Yes / No? Problem with Charlton or Krause or Red Book is that they are always a couple of years behind.
