When a new collector wants to buy his first doubled die, this one is a nice one to get. It shows you how a doubled die should look like. After view one of these in hand, you will kick yourself. You will realize that you were looking to hard for something that wasn't there on all the coins you've seen so far. You will realize that a doubled die will jump out at you. You will realize that Machine Doubling is very common and you were looking to hard to find a doubled die.
But do you want to know what to look for on one of these before you buy one. These are easy to come by, but the examples with less die wear will in the long run be a better purchase. As you learn about die wear, then you will know what to buy and what to pass on:






Note the areas between the top of the devices and the rim areas.
So digging a bit more, you will note the areas next to the rims to show the die flow wear affected the most:




Another area to look for this die flow/wear pattern on Wheat cents is on the EPU:




Now you will know where to look to get the better die states on all coins you purchase. Why settle for less, when you know what is the best area to look at on coins you purchase in the future.
