I found what looks to be a blank penny in my loose coin collection. But not sure if it really is or not. It looks to be a little thinner than a real penny. If it is a blank penny, are they worth anything? Sorry if the pic is not real clear, had to edit it to get it small enough to post. Not sure if can tell anything from that pic or not. Let me know if you need anymore. I am not really a true coin collector. I do have a small collection of wheat pennies and other various coins like Buffalo nickels, Kennedy half dollars, walkking liberty half dollar, Susan B Anthony dollars, antique coins. Not sure if they are worth anything or not. May make a post about them, takes forever to put pics on here because of the size limit lol.

@weathered, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks like this piece is in some sort of silver-coplored bezel or ring--is that true?

Ok weird--it must just be the lighting on your picture. What is the weight and diameter?

Not sure about the weight, don't think I have a scale that would be precise enough. Diameter looks to be a hair smaller than a regular penny, and I mean a hair.

Ok well a weight is gonna be important for us to help you I think. Is it similarly featureless on the other side?

With the scales I have, it showed .1 ounces, my scales only goes in .1 ounce increments. It seems a penny should weigh .088 ounces. Not sure if that weight will help any.
Maybe I would be better off finding a local coin store, would also like to find out what my other coins are worth to. Not sure I would sell them. If I were to sell them, would like to get an idea what they are worth so I know they are not trying to rip me off.

@keith12, you can see a nose and lips in that pic? I see nothing at all no matter how I look at it.

Assuming that it is a blank, it would only be worth a few dollars. TheUS mint once issued some blanks in pliofilm with a struck coin-in the last 10 years I think.

Well the planchet does get wider after the strike. The collar controls with width of the coins. I feel it is a legit copper planchet. Thus the green spot on the planchet.

Coop;
Is it possible to have a coin struck and have no indication of any devices. If so what is that called. Do they set up the coin presses with blank dies for setting depth ?
