Putting A Circulated Morgan Collection Together What Investments Is Needed?

What checklist I am using is coping the Morgan dansco list into two blank danscos. It is 96 ports. I am already close to 3K and still need some major dates like: 1881-cc 1885cc 1889cc 1893s (almost half the cost right there) 1893p 1895p (pipe dream coin to be honest) 1895s Besides these I have 9 others for the set. If I get all of these hard dates and in vf20 or above I am looking at a total investment of about 14K. If I hold these for five years I hope to break even and will take to a trusted dealer to appraise so I have a note to those I leave it too knowledge of what its worth. I plan to do this to all my alumns, most will be just face value stuff but I hope to inspire the ones I leave it to to get involved with the history. I know I am asking for crystal ball stuff here but hae always heard, start with the most expensive as they tend to always go up in value as time goes on. And no I don't do it that way but want to make it a significant inheritance or sell it myself in 10 years. Thanks, Dyno Report this Post to the Staff

Buy coins because you like or love them, not only for investment purposes. Also, key dates trend up and down over the years, there is no consistent raise in price. For example, the S-VDB Wheat cent has gradually declined in value over the last few decades. While the 1895 Morgan has gone up in price. It's all up to the market at that time. I am more concerned about who I may leave it too to make sure they understand to get the most value. So I started notes and adding cards to albumns for that purpose anyways. Some will never hit my collection, I'd rather buy a new truck/camper/house/tools/toys, etc for the cost of some of these coins... LOL but we can always dream! Report this Post to the Staff
Steelers72 Pillar of the Community United States 1448 Posts	Posted 01/21/2020 10:06 am My biggest piece of advice is buy quality. Buy the best quality coin you can afford based on your budget. If you foresee your budget changing, it's best to hold off until you could afford the best quality piece for your money. Don't settle for a lesser coin just because you want to spend your coin budget right away. This hobby gets very expensive when you find yourself needing to constantly sell as you make upgrades.
