I bought this medal at my coin club auction a couple nights ago. Internet searches haven't turned up anything about it. Does anybody know anything about it? I'd think there would be eleven more like it.

Zodiac---Leo?-A-Series?

Zodiac---Leo?-A-Series?

The medal is in a 2x2 flip. It measures 38mm across, is about 2mm thick. The edge doesn't appear to have any lettering or marks, but there are numerous abrasions which look like the medal has been cleaned with steel wool, but the marks aren't very deep. I can see in a couple spots on the edge a different color metal coming through.

Thanks for any ideas!

I'm seeing some others like this on ebay but haven't learned much.

Most interesting is 402043656172 -- same general design on the obverse but with a Bicentennial reverse. It has the original packaging but there's nothing to identify it further from the pictures. I'd think it's from the same production but without anything helpful on the box I'm afraid it's just "interesting".

I think that this medal is plated and that the plating is coming off. Unfortunately, as most of us have discovered, without a maker's or designer's mark, medals are often extremely difficult to attribute. Anyone can issue a medal for any reason, without any approval being required, so they are apt to be poorly documented. The subject matter of yours is extremely common too, and there are probably 100s of different ones.

Thank you both Alpha and Oriole! I searched through ebay, but didn't even think to search for anything other than the Leo. It's a start!
