1983 Missing "l" Quarter Error? Plus Possible Mintmark Error

bamagama New Member United States 26 Posts	Posted 01/27/2020 03:37 am Hello! I found this 1983 quarter in circulation. It's pretty beat up, I think the term is Good or About Good? There's plenty of dings and scratches all over the front and back, but it's still legible word-wise etc. The first error is a possible S over D? Or a filled in mintmark? I've never seen a D filled like that on a 1983 so not sure if it is a manufacture damage or a valuable error. Now for the really cool part! The 2nd L in the word DOLLAR on the back is gone! Well, not entirely; there's a verrrrrrry faint hint of the top of the L and the bottom, but other than that it's smooth. There's no deep gauges or like, 'scoring' marks on/around the missing L that would be indicative of it being removed on purpose, at least to my eye! But I'm still a novice at this Any info on this error or it's Value is really appreciated! I'm very grateful this community exists, thank you for sharing your knowledge! It's what happens when the little pin that makes the whole in the mint mark gets worn down and eventually breaks off. Nothing special, very common. Second coin looks like a Grease Filled Die which is quite interesting. Those are common as well but I haven't seen one single letter almost blurred out and the rest normal. Common, but still cool. I've never heard of the grease die filling, that's really cool! There are so many things that can/do go wrong with coins I have yet to learn about.
