The other day I asked about how many coins I could post ..... apparently there is no limit. So I will post my entire collection of Morgan and Peace dollars (over 250) a few at a time. I'm trying to learn and so request that all opinions of the coin be brutally honest. I would like you to mention grade and condition, whether cleaned or polished or whizzed, dings. Some of my earliest acquisitions were pretty bad but I'm posting them in the order I bought them, and when I first started bidding on these coins at ebay, I really didn't know a thing so many of my early coins will be some of my worst buys. I still make mistakes now and then but not quite as often. All but 15 of that 250+ silver dollars were won with bids between $15 and $35 so none, even the bad wins weren't too costly. So I'm going to post this heading in each of my coin evaluation posts, and this is #4 coin. Edited by KauaiHawaiiGuy 01/27/2020 6:13 pm

So this isn't a complaint about the grades, because the whole reason I'm posting my collection is because I'm trying to learn the why for the grades. Perhaps my pictures weren't the best so I'm posting two more that show that half the luster is still present. In my own database I had this coin marked as an XF-45, and that was according to my interpretation of ANA and PCGS grading standards, so two of you had this at XF, so I had the grade right, and it might be a 40, but not a VF-35 or below. But as to the cleanings, please if you could elaborate as to why you say it's cleaned. Maybe the new pictures would change your mind and if not could you please explain. Thanks

"panzaldi XF details. cleaned. why do all you coins have the same distressed look? did you purchase them from the same person?" No ..... 250+ coins, probably 200 different sellers, like I said, they're all ebay auction wins, and these low numbers are the coins I bought when I first started 4 years ago ...... some really do get better. And what exactly is "distressed" anyway? I can't quite figure out how to get a good picture that doesn't make them look so "distressed". They look better in my hand or even through a loop then they do in the pictures I take. Did you look at my #6 and #7 ...... not quite as "distressed" looking.

The coin has hairline scratches on both sides of the coin. Put the coin in hand between index finger and thumb under light and tilt back and forth and you should see the hairline scratches caused by cleaning.

Yes, it's the short fine hairlines that tend to run in the same direction in the photos, suggesting a past abrasive cleaning.

All the little lines and scratches in the fields, across liberty's cheek, across the eagle breast should not be there. Sure signs of a cleaning. Also, the dark lines around the lettering, inside "Liberty" on the head dress, inside one of the 8s, indicate this coin was heavily toned at one time. And now 99% of it is bright silver. That didn't happen naturally.

EF-45 straight grade. Too much dirt and original toning in the protected areas for a cleaning. The hairlines could be from a cloth rub, pocket or other material. The coin just does not have a typical "cleaned" look.
