Acid bath perhaps?

I was thinking the same thing actually. However when I view the coin edge it definitely goes from thick to thin as you rotate it there is one area that possibility has a bit of segments on it I am new to photographing coins. I hope the photos look ok just curious how they look to you folks thanks again for the help

I too suspect school chem lab experiment in plating.

Looks like someone bonded it with zinc in a (likely highschool) experiment involving zinc chloride. After the initial plating they sometimes utilize the Leidenrfrost effect to give it a sickly, pale gold sheen as you've drawn copper molecules into the zinc, making simple brass. It's one of the more common experiments using cents in a High School Chemistry class.

Very similar to the reason that an overheating can cause an annealed planchet error and for the same reasons.
