I have recently been going through a couple rolls of unc 58's P and D mints and the vast majority have numerous die lines/scratches especially on the reverse. Why so common this year? I admit I have seen far fewer exdamples of other unc years but I don't recall so many lines on them. Also, do these lines negativly affect grading? and if so, how much?

Die cracks have no effect on grading. I think the dies in the 50's weren't very hard and they produced a good number of coins, so we see a lot of cracks. You can see a lot of die wear in most of the 50's series, most notably the portraits are usually mush with almost no detail.

No, it is not die cracks, though I have seen a good number of them, but polishing lines, all over the coin, wether or not the details are mushy.
