I've been collecting any type of Jefferson nickel Or Jefferson commemorative coin I could find. Been looking for the JFSNC set for about 5 years and finally managed to pick on up on ebay. From what I've read they produced 1,938 of each matte and .999 proof mine is set # 693 so close to middle of production. Any1 else have one of these sets?

These were produced in 2002 for the Full step nickel club from casts that were an original Design for the Jefferson nickel created by Felix Schlag... I've read that he won the contest but changed his design due to areas not being able to last in the minting process and damage towards the dies..

Yes, I have a set too. I got my pair in 2008

These are encapsulated by SEGS and both numbered #758 as well as the Mint State example I have purchased.
Full Step Nickel Club has a limit of 1938 pc's of each to have been minted, however, it is rumored that only about half of that number were produced.
Now I noted that over 10 years ago. Where I got that info about a lower mintage I don't remember.
I posted somewhere on this site about my purchase. I think I paid around the issue price if my memory serves me right. I looked at a few of these years later, and they were selling for more. Haven't thought about them for awhile and glad you bought a set and brought this up.
Lets keep our eyes out for higher numbered slabs for mintage numbers.

I'll try to re-verify my source on that rumor info. Mine are still spot free and bright white.

OK, so I did a little rooting around and found a collectors website that mentions in the last few years that not all 1938 matte and 1938 proof minted were slabbed. From what I read and for what it's worth, there was trouble with SEGS getting paid from the FSNC President at the time for the cost of remaining raw Jefferson nickel JFSNC items minted that were to be slabbed by SEGS.
It is possible that SEGS has kept the remaining stock in their possession in lieu of money due and even started slabbing them again for their own sales.
There are slabs without bar codes from SEGS and some have similar set numbers, for example, a bar coded set may have a number #7 where one without has a number #07.

Both yours and both of mine do come up at SEGS Certification page
fsnc1232 and fsnc1231 and mine has 8 numbers. https://www.segsgrading.com/Product...nLookup.aspx

TNG thanks for the segs website certificate verification was going to look into seeing if I could find info on that but hadn't had time.. the paper I received says they were $38 for the matte and $42 for the proof so $80 for the set together.. if it's true about cutting certifications due to money issues that would raise the value in the future for sure for the SEGS slabbed coins..

Found this Nice case for the coin set I just purchased..The 3rd coin in the last slot was another coin example/pattern in the original designs that wasn't chosen don't know the story behind it but I have had it for a few years as a cool piece of history. I found it interesting that the back of the losing coin is more similar to the design used in the modern nickels
