Odd 1892-O Barber Dime

Hi! Does anyone have some idea of what might be going on with this Barber dime? Initially, I thought it was just dirty and/ or crusty, but then I magnified the affected side and saw what appears to be entire sections of the "One Dime" area that flaked off. The dime weighs 2.38 grams.

Looks like deliberate damage plus environmental decay.

May have been mounted at one time. Serious reverse damage from an attempt at solder removal is my guess.

Those were used for all sorts of things in their day. I'd have to agree with westernsky with all that scratching going on.
