Help Build A Compendium Of Saints On Coins: Alphabetical By Issuing Entity.

tdziemia Pillar of the Community United States 7935 Posts	Posted 02/18/2020 7:35 pm Here and there on CCF I have posted coins that fit a collecting theme of mine, which is coins with images of saints. It was pointed out recently that LOTS of CCF contributors have world coins that fit this theme, so this thread is meant to provide an opportunity to show them all in one place, organized by name of the issuing country/state/city. So let's see them! We'll start with place names beginning with the letters A to C, which I hope might bring out some Canadian coppers with Saint George, maybe a gold sovereign from Australia, and lots of German and Italian states (Bavarian madonnas? Bohemia? Ancona? Bologna?). All of these places, and more in the first three letters of the alphabet, minted coins that feature an image of a saint. Here's a tentative timeline: A to C Feb. 18 - 29 D to F March 1 - 7 G to I March 8 - 14 J to L March 15 - 21 M to O March 22 - 28 P to R March 29 - April 4 S to U April 5 - April 11 V to Z April 12 - Each Sunday (memory permitting ) I will chime in and turn over to the next letters of the alphabet. tdziemia Pillar of the Community United States 7935 Posts	Posted 02/20/2020 4:10 pm I think on the "Post Your German Coins" thread, I have seen other members' later coins from Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg with an image of St. Andrew, who is the patron saint of the city of Braunschweig. Here is a notgeld coin from Bingen showing St. Martin of Tours. If you have a notgeld coin with a figure on it and you don't know who it might be, put it out here and we might be able to figure it out. I think we will see St. Peter many times over the next few weeks, especially when we hit some of the other German city-states, then Papal States, and finally Vatican City. Certainly that 19th century British rendering of St. George is the most dramatic version in all of numismatics (as I recall, the engraver was an Italian who immigrated during the Napoleonic wars?).
