Not quite sure how to label this one. Split planchet? cracked planchet? Linear ragged clip? Help appreciated on what this is exactly. Given the grade this one is likely to get I am thinking going full on for a PCGS slab. Expensive, but it's an expensive coin even without the error. 1912-S Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - cracked planchet - MS

That's amazing and Such a neat coin. I would label it as cracked planchet if it were me. Split planchets happen when the obverse or reverse is split off, right? PCGS is a nice way to present this coin IMO. Very, very nice! -CH27

I don't think you would call what you have a Split planchet, as that is something entirely different. A few weeks ago I found a Canadian cent that was a Split planchet. It was a normal shaped coin that was completely distressed during its minting. If you would like you can see and read about my coin here: http://goccf.com/t/366262

Super coin TB ! The thing I find most fascinating is that there seems to have been a wide enough gap at the crack for a Blakesley effect to happen during the strike on the opposite side of the coin fron the crack in the planchet.

Thanks for all the great comments! Tis a spiffy one and in my stack of things to get off to a TPG. Might not see it for a while if I send it to PCGS though, as I think they've had my dropped letter now for over two months. I'm patient but that is getting to be a long time to put a coin in a piece of plastic.

Took me forever to finally decide to pay the price to slab this one, and then four months to get it back. But it is now in a PCGS holder as MS62BN Cracked Planchet.
