Hi guys went to my penny jar I have of Wheat penny's and found this unusual penny I thought it was just dirty or something but can't find anything on it any help will be appreciated thanks!

@coinfrog so when you polish a copper toned penny or piece of copper is it supposed to turn back to its original color? You know what I mean? Or I maybe not explaining my self correctly

Ok yes coin is within mint specs for weight, so that should be surface toning. With copper, you can get a whole variety of colors.

I cant dismiss the possibility that it could be zinc plated, perhaps in a high school chem lab experiment.

Whatever the possibilities, XRF testing would yield the right information in this case.
