Is it correct that photos 1 and 4 show a single-headed eagle facing left?
And is it something like bronze or copper?

Image 1 and 4 are different orientations (angles) of the same side. There appears to be a bust facing left though it's but a silhouette. It looks like aged bronze though it could be copper as I have not done a scratch test on it to check.

Quote: I have not done a scratch test on it to check. Please don't do this. I recognize that this coin is pretty far gone, but I'd still rather have you avoid purposefully debasing it. With that serrated edge, I wonder if this isn't Seleucid, for example like this so-called bottle cap from @echizento: http://goccf.com/t/323540

This is just another thought on those photos ... But I am used to having eagles on my coins, so take it with a grain of salt.

Quote: With that serrated edge, I wonder if this isn't Seleucid... You're on the right track, Dave. But not the Apollo reverse type as with Ron's coin. It's more likely the veiled goddess seen on some issues, such as the Antiochos VI and IV below. The OP coin is pretty far gone, but I think the spiky obverse shape suggests a radiate crown (the obverse is certainly a bust right, btw), and the reverse aligns well to the goddess reverses on those Seleucid issues. You can see one arm on hip, one raised, as we see with the goddess. Size is about right too, as is the serrate form. Furthermore I can easily believe the reverse right legend might be BAΣIΛEΩΣ (the off-centered strike means the ANTIOXOY of the left field is cropped off). The placement of the IΛ from BAΣIΛEΩΣ works well with the OP coin.

Bob nails another one! I still have a lot to learn (I obviously can't tell a spiky crown from feathers )

Nice comparison post which helps me tremendously. That would place this about 145BC in the Macedonian Empire. Thank you all for your time and knowledge.
