I have this 1954 penny that has Cud on it and the color is off and letters not legible. It is not copper colored like it should be, weighs 3.2 grams, cannot read letters at top on obverse, appears to be a flaw planchette near date on obverse but that's the only thing close I can find to matching this. It doesn't seem to match photos shown for that error tho. Any help on what happened to this would be great. I've looked everywhere with no luck figuring out what happened to it.Thanks so much!

Appears it was melted? Not a Cud. PMD in my opinion.

The coin looks to have been cleaned at some point and is well worn. I would lean more towards a nice interesting Cud. There is to much metal in the field and NOT MUCH Disturbance at all to the RIM. Nice find ..

Hmmm, yeah I guess I didn't doubt the Cud when looking at this coin but also why I'm asking because I'm not sure what happened to it. This coin has been in my possession since my father acquired it back in the 60's and I inherited from him as well as many many other coins. There is also Cud on the obverse as well, as the reverse to the right & down of from the tia in Gratia near the rim. I can post other photos if helpful. Thanks again.

On a side note neither him or I would have cleaned it but doesn't mean it wasn't prior to his possession of it.

Looks like plumbing solder to me.

That's an interesting theory SPP-OTTAWA, thanks so much for your reply.
As a newbie to Canadian errors, and a common question I see on coin errors in general with the coins I have looked up CRH or from inheriting from my dad my first thought is wouldn't it weigh more if something was soldered onto the coin? This weighs 3.2 gr

Not a Cud
A Cud begins with a die crack from one point on the rim to another.
No parts of the field would be seen in the middle of it.
A Cud that size would produce a definite weakness of behind it on the obverse.
The fact that it still weighs 3.2 grams means nothing, it is a well worn coin with a lump of solder.
