I have finally found an 1884 C1. That spot in the binder has been empty for many years until now. Please excuse the photo flash.

Thanks. I marked the flip as VG. Now I need to find a single serif 1881 and 1 million varieties of 1859.

I found it in a lot of large cents recently purchased on ebay. I wasn't expecting it to be in the lot as I was more interested in the 1859's and 1882's that were in there. Bonus.

Hi folks just stumbled across this thread . Whilst Canadian coins isn't my forte and I collect mainly British Milled coins I still dip my toe in with the colonial cousins offerings from time to time. I picked up this 1884 C1 in an auction lot that I never knew was even in the box. Has a slight down side some goon albeit in a fancy scribe has worded "For Victoria In Canada God Bless on the obverse of the coin. It's very light but its there. Otherwise its a very decent grade coin. So I thought I would share my find :)

Nice find Zookeeperz, as mentioned hard variety coin to find especially in Europe my guess would be an EF condition for wear

Does the "N" in Canada show signs of there being a full serif there (sometimes the right part of the N serif in Canada barely shows? It kinda looks like it in the photo. The single working die that made these for '84 used an old leftover 1876 die and repunched them.

I have 8-10 of the '84 Obv 1's, so I'll take a look when I have time to see what I have. Only 1 (I think) '76 die was repunched with the N's to make them full serif and used in /84. Maybe the R was repunched as well to clean the die up from weak letters.
