Weight would indicate that this is a standard 1979 Cent,
but zinc plated - probably in a high school science lab experiment.

If it was aluminum, it would weigh approximately .93g.
Your coin is more than three times heavier.

There where no Aluminum cents in 1979. It can only mean it was plated and is worth 1 cent.

Someone was trying to create a mint error coin. But when they realized they failed. What did they do with it? Spent it! And you found it. Worth face value.
