Hello. My son and I are hobby collectors and have been looking for the 2019 West Point quarters in change. During his search he came across this quarter and thought it looked funny. Wanted to get others thoughts on whether it is an error or just post production damage. Thanks.

to the CCF!

It looks like PSD or Post Strike Damage. The coin was normal at one point in it's life. Whatever did the damage took a large amount of pressure! Lets see if the experts think the same.

The clue as to why it was squeezed with another coin? Note the deeper part on the 'STATES OF' area? That is from the rim from another coin. If that area was made by a die, it would not be incuse there.

Note, there is no incuse mark beyond the edge of the die, like on your coin. In fact the opposite is happening. The is a rising of the metal where the shelf of the die that forms the rim is showing on this image. Note the 'PL' on PLURIBUS? You can see the level area and the notch where the edge of the die bottomed out.

Note the little shelf are going around the die (but missing on the Cud area where the die broke off) That will not make an incuse area, but on a normal strike will form the rim. On the coin that was squeezed on to your coin, the rim was present on the coin. Telling us that it was not from a die, but from a coin. Also if you could see the devices on your coin, they will all be a mirror image of the coin that was squeezed against your coin. PSD.

To CCF! Yes, unfortunately, it's been damaged. PSD. Only worth face value.

First, what an amazing forum. Thanks to everyone for your responses and the deeper background material. Looks like this quarter will go back into the change jar.
