Hey everyone!

So I just bought this 1913 type 1 from an antique dealer that didn't appear to have much knowledge on coins. They sold this piece as "mint-state", but because of the squared-off rims, incredible hair-line details, etc.. I think it's a proof.
I've been comparing photos online and it seems to much more resemble what I think it to be, but actually seems to be better struck than even the proof photos I see online!

But I'm not an expert on buffalos and would love your input.
I put it side-by-side with a mint-state 1937 in the bottom two photos because I don't have any other type 1.

Please remove coins from holders before taking pics whenever possible.

Sorry about that, John! I didn't think about that.
I also try not to do that if I don't have to because I have a wonderful habit of dropping anything and everything with potential value :)

From what I can see through that junk it sure does look like an incredible Strike . Not saying yet if it's proof or very high MS. Can't wait for photos without the holder .

You were right! Much better this way.
#1-4 are my coin
#5-6 - recorded proof (PCGS)
#7-8 - recorded MS (PCGS)

When taking it out, I noticed that the edges are highly reflective.
Also, the letters don't tend to bleed into the rim like an MS.
The strike seems better than the recorded proofs imo.. but that could just be the pictures.

Well according to your photos this bad boy would have to be a proof or an MS-68+ business strike . I'm leaning towards high PF .

Beautiful coin ! Out of curiosity, wondering how this beauty ended up in an antique shop in Japan?

Why is this a question? It's a proof with no doubt.
