Note on a doubled die, the devices are wider:
1919-S-Cent-Doubled-Die?
The MD is showing you a reduction of the normal devices. (smaller than normal) On a doubled die, the doubling is on the die, showing a spread on the devices. On Machine Doubling it is a reduction of the dies devices, whether normal or a doubled die.
