My brother has had a '72 Denver penny since a few years after its circulation, always wondering if if had any special worth or how it became as it looks. I include pictures. As the width picture shows, it is about half the width of a usual penny. Could you please help him with these questions. We both live rather removed from any access to collectors. Thanks.

I believe a split planchet is correct. Incredible find! They aren't common.
