When I was a kid I found a medallion behind my house between my mom's and our upstairs neighbor's cars. The neighbors had never seen it.

It was probably around 3 inches in diameter with a hole near the top and a small ring attached.

I wore it around my neck for years until my cousin stole it one summer. I have never forgotten it...or forgave my cousin for the theft..though we were young.

I still remember the color of the metal...aged...the round but slightly rough hewn shape.

it was two sided:

on one side...a naked old man with a bird and staff walking

on the other side...the character looked devilish with a skull or something for a head...and what people thought was a horn or tail.

there were some symbols on both sides as well that no one I knew could identify.

Back when I was a kid... no one thought it could be anything of real value because I had it...told me it might be a replica or something...it looked authentic. I'm 41 and I've never chanted my opinion.

I saw some photos of Bullion coins from Armorica and they reminded me so much of my medallion...i started to look online again..after all these years.

the color ...when I was a kid...people said it couldn't be gold...because of the aging....but the color really reminded me of the Bullion I saw.

It was much larger than any of the coins and seemed to be meant to be worn as a medallion or whatever..because of the ringlet.

It was my most prized possession. I still miss it ...partly because I never got to find out the mystery behind it. Somewhere I made a rubbing of it...but that may be lost too. I might be able to draw a rough sketch.

I was just hoping someone here might be able to tell me more about Bullion...or Armorica...both of which I have become fascinated with.

This was in New Jersey...where the largest horde of bullion coins was found.

I want to know all about Armorica...sometimes referred to as the region of Brittany/Gaul...separated by the Seine river...modern day England and France.

But Armorica meant 'by the sea' and in my dreams...i think of the mysterious 'Sea Peoples'

when I was a kid...i believed the medallion could be the last link to some lost civilization. I'm 41 and I still think like that lol.

I used to wind up the string my medallion would hang from until it twisted into a curled not...then I would let it go...

the medallion would spin so fast that at first it would be sideways....liked perpendicular to the string....then...as it would slow...and oscillate....everyone said the same thing..

it looked like the figures on each side...were dancing

good and evil I used to think

i still miss that thing...and just knew I could solve the mystery

I, for one, would like to see that. Please just add it to this thread and perhaps we can help you.

I moved this over to the Ancient coin section for better help.

Here is a link to some Armoric coinage, this might help you ID your piece.

Ok...I apologize for the drawing. I haven't seen it in around 30 years. On one side there is what looks like a naked old man walking with a staff. I think the man had the staff...if not the other character had either a horn (like you blown on)...or a tail..depending on who you asked.

The character on the other side...seemed to have a skull like head...

I always thought of the two sides as good and evil. Who knows...I was a kid.

The shape was round...but a little roughly formed...definitely not modern..unless it was a fake of some kind...it looked really old and the thing that first made me think of Billon was the color of the coins I saw in the picture. People used to tell me it couldn't be gold because gold doesn't age like that or get discolored...but the Billon coins I saw reminded me of that.

There were some sybols or letters as well but no one I talked to ever had any idea what they meant. Adults would say 'Pagan' but no one I showed it to honestly knew anything at all.

it was larger than any of the Armorica coins I saw..but it really was more of a medallion and it had that ringlet at the top.

i put it on a string and wore it around my neck.

i used to twist it up all the time and let it spin...at the peak of the spin..the medal would seem to defy gravity...spinning sideways...then...as it slowed...and oscillated (like a coin drop)...it looked as if the figures on either side were dancing...anyway..a lot of people used to say that.

My cousin stole it when I was a kid. I actually believe it was probably worth something and his family found out or something and sold it for a lot of money...I'll never know..he says another friend of his stole it after he did... I recently wrote to him...offering him a thousand dollars if he could track it down. he never wrote back.

i once made a rubbing of it...but I don't know where that is either :(
