I have this 2000 -D nickel that has an issue with the letters and date. The rim is in good shape but the letters land date look significantly larger than normal. They are so large that they are distorted. Is this Die Deterioration?
Or maybe grease? I know someone has an explanation. Thanks in advance.

I have a few 200Ds like that. I think it's mostly Die Deterioration, maybe with some grease thrown in.

Severe Die Deterioration with a little bit of grease thrown into the mix.

I've come across these also. Agree with the above.
