So I am brand new to this site and with coin collection in general. I came across this 2005 D stamped Ocean in View nickel while I was counting down my till at work last week and was just curious if someone could tell me if it's a black beauty nickel or not? And if it's not, could someone please explain what is up with this coin? (Meaning painted/colored on, badly tarnished, etc.) Really curious and intrigued... The coin on the left is the coin that's in question, and the coin on the right is a normal 2006 nickel used for comparison.

Can't argue that that's a very dark Nickel but it's not a
BB . If it was the whole planchet would be dark Cobalt . See how the edge of the coin is not dark on both sides , and you can't say the edges wore down revealing a normal color Nickel .

Looks heated. Altered the color. Note the peeling on the nose. On the black beauties, the color is more than field/devices deep. The color doesn't peel off.

To CCF! I agree that it's not a Black Beauty Nickel. It's a damaged coin, PSD.
