I'm trying to rap my head around the master die and how they clash together to make an incuse Y on the reverse? Can anyone explain this?

@mw88, perhaps the best way is with an overlay. Then you can see what details from one side orient to the (upside-down) details on the other side.

What I had trouble with understanding is if the Y is raised on a coin so it is incuse on the die so how does it end up incuse on the reverse? Wouldnt it be raised?

Ok it's like this a die clash happens when the dies collide with no planchet in the striking chamber.
That effects the other die as it would a normal planchet but a lot less sense it's a harder metal then the die strikes the next planchet leaving the reverse of the die clash marks on the planchet

And most times both sides are affected. Sometimes one of the may rotate a bit. Leaving the overlay slightly different. The overlay is to show the position of the dies when they are clashed together normally.

On the newer images, I sorted the Memorial dies according to the RDV numbers. (what years they cover) For example note this one is RDV-004 1974-1985. While these all look alike when you see them posted separately, they all match the time/reverse die variety that were used during those years) Why I never thought of before to do this is beyond me?
