Yes good question Bob and I can't tell you how thrilled that seemingly someone else in the world notices these things. Due to the two vertical strokes and three horizontal strokes, I actually would call it a 5d. Interestingly the 5 stroke letter A seems to become more prominent in the 13th and especially 14th Centuries (although I do note that 5 stroke letter As were also quite common on 9th Century Byzantine coins.
